A Guide to Standards Based Report Cards - 2015-16

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As you may recall a short memo went home along with the second trimester report card about Vernon Public School’s move to a new achievement reporting system for our elementary students in the 2015-16 school year.  A committee of teachers and administrators has been working over the past year on creating a report card which is aligned to the Connecticut Core Standards for English Language Arts and Math.  This new “Standards Based Report Card” will be implemented in the fall of 2015.  Below are some resources to help you understand the changes:

  • A short, 6 minute video to the right explains the reasons for the change and the difference between the current and new report cards
  • An example of the new report card for first grade can be found here.  Please note that the final product will be different as we work with our student management company.
  • An example of the old report card from 2012-13 can be found here.
  • A "Parent Guide" with frequently asked questions can be found here.
  • A "Roadmap" for what is taught in each grade will be provided in the near future.  Below are some examples of drafts for grade 5:
  • A short, two question survey for your feedback can be found here.
