NES Activities

Laughter was abundant this week as we celebrated all of the summer reading the NES students completed! The goal was to prevent summer slide and the students worked very hard to achieve that with a total of 3,189 books read!! For their hard work, they were rewarded with a giant blow up slide! I’ve never seen the students, or teachers for that matter, with such big smiles. The students learned that hard work pays off. I can’t wait to see how their reading has prepared them for the skills they’ll learn this year!

The Home-School Connection is a high priority at NES and we’re off to a great start!  Open House this week saw parents visiting their children’s classrooms and having the opportunity to learn about teacher/student expectations and what their child’s day is like.  After the formal teacher presentation, parents were able to ask questions.

Our fifth grade band students had their second lesson this week and they are off to a great start! Students have learned to set up their instrument and can already play three notes! They are also learning the care and maintenance required for each instrument.  Mrs. Stein is very proud of how responsible the students have been in remembering to bring their instruments and folders every Wednesday.

Fourth grade students visited the Belding Wildlife Preservation this week and impressed their teachers with their questions, participation, and behavior.  Our core values were on display!  Students were able to explore different types of habitats and discovered living and non-living organisms. Students discovered an assortment of sounds and took notice of a variety of animals. So full of questions! There was lots of hands-on learning!

Northeast school is buzzing with learning and laughter! Students are settled into their classrooms and learning the rules and routines. We are focusing on working hard and being nice this year and you can see it in the hallways and classrooms. As well as welcoming children on the first day of school, we also welcomed new staff members.  They are making a smooth transition into our Northeast school family. We can’t wait to see what fabulous things will transpire in the weeks to come!
