VCMS After School Program
The Above and Beyond After School Program is held at Vernon Center Middle School in Vernon, CT. The program is available to all Vernon Center Middle School students on a first-come first-serve basis. The program operates Monday through Friday from 2:20 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the school year. Bus transportation is available for those students in need of transportation. There is a fee charged for all students attending the program which goes toward providing a daily snack, program materials, activities, and transportation home.
The Above and Beyond After School Program is designed to offer a homework time followed by a variety of activities where students can spend after-school hours in a safe adult-supervised environment. The goal is to provide an extended day program filled with both learning and enrichment opportunities for students in grades 6-8. The program is designed to support the student’s academic and social needs, while also supporting the needs of working parents.
The main focus is always to provide a structured homework time where students can participate in small homework groups with an instructor. Program adults communicate weekly with team teachers regarding student’s homework and behavior, and student’s grades are tracked through mid-terms and report cards to determine specific need. Once homework is complete, students participate in enrichment activities that are educational, recreational, cultural, or leisure-time experiences, such as sports and games, community service projects, and arts and crafts.
